Overall Responsibility:

The Programs and Events Assistant is support staff to the Event Director, Foundation’s Executive Director, Communication Director and VP of Investor Relations to help to coordinate all the signature Chamber and Foundation events and programs with the goal of generating non-dues income and providing members with networking and educational opportunities.

Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or equivalent required
2. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, Google Suite, web-based applications, video conferencing platforms.
3. Preferred experience with Photoshop and other graphic design/video platforms and software.
4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
5. Strong organizational skills and ability to work with minimal supervision
6. Willingness to learn preferred skills as needed
7. Speak easily in front of large groups
8. Manage multiple projects

Essential Functions and Team Work:

1. Ability to lift and carry 40 pounds. At times, an employee is required to be actively moving for a continuous 4-8 hours. Employees must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch and/or crawl.
2. Have dependable transportation and a current driver’s license
3. Flexibility to carry out responsibilities on evenings, weekends and occasional travel as needed.
4. Assist fellow staff members as necessary to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the Chamber office.
5. Participate as an active member of the Chamber staff, which is a positive and dynamic team dedicated to exceeding customer expectations.
6. Make use of available software applications in a way that ensures that our members and the general public view the Chamber as a respected, professional, efficient organization.
7. Follow guidelines outlined in the employee handbook, such as personal appearance, attendance and punctuality, etc.

Responsibilities:

● Assist in planning, developing, and coordinating all aspects of signature events, including but not limited to the Annual Gala, BBQ & Blues Cook-Off, Chamber Golf Classic, Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival, Chicago Street Supper Club, Golf FORE! Education, Free Enterprise Luncheon, Leadership Series, AM Connections, Business After Hours, Chamber Choices Campaign, SBAwesome and Cash Mob.
● Contribute to social media content calendar to assist with social planning.
● Attend board meetings, events, and programs as directed by a Staff Director or the CEO.
● Assist in developing sponsorship/advertising/funding opportunities and solicit sponsors/advertisers
● Recruit and maintain a strong working relationship with volunteers, diplomats, local businesses and vendors
● Ensure post-event communication/thank you to event sponsors, partners and participants are executed as promised through sponsorships
● Assists in the development of the SBCC annual budget
● Identify budget reduction opportunities and present for approval
● Assist Event Director in leading volunteer-based committee meetings by providing information in a timely manner, creating agendas, and other needed materials
● Answer phone calls and assist with walk-in traffic as necessary
● Coordinate other events and/or projects as assigned by the President
● Assist with the Diplomat program by helping with communication about volunteer opportunities, keeping track of attendance and attending events.
● Assist with SBCF educational enrichment programs such as Junior Ambassadors, Scholarships, and Principal’s Luncheon.
● Other duties as assigned by the President/CEO or other Staff Directors.
